OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO PROTECT CAPE VULTURES.
Cape vultures, also known as Cape Griffon vultures, are large birds of prey that belong to the vulture family Accipitridae. Cape vultures, like other vulture species, play a crucial role in the ecosystems, and their presence offers several advantages. Cape vultures are scavengers, feeding primarily on carrion (dead animals). Their scavenging behavior helps clean the environment by efficiently removing carcasses. This scavenging service is essential for preventing the spread of diseases and maintaining overall ecosystem health.
Cape vultures are listed as "Endangered" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. The population of Cape vultures has been declining, and they face various threats that contribute to their endangered status. The potential extinction of Cape vultures is a concern, and ongoing conservation efforts are critical to prevent further declines and work towards population recovery.
Established as a non-profit organization on August 12, 2021, the Batho le Ditsatlholego Conservation Trust (BLDCT) has undertaken a dedicated mission. With a vision to safeguard the breeding grounds of Cape Vultures nestled in the heart of Goo-Tau village, our journey has been one of commitment and purpose.
